Many of the youth that the Outdoor Initiative program reaches have never been inside of a tent, have never gone on a hike and have never explored the creek and their back yard. The Outdoor Initiative is designed to spark exploration of the outdoors and build support for science curriculum, based on water science knowledge. The first step in creating the next generation of environmental stewards is to get them interested in being outside. Our goal to is reach 5,000 youth in the Neuse River Basin.
Today's youth is not a play outside generation. Our goal is to create and/or foster that interest in being outside, exploring nature, and learning about our water resources.

We strive to create the next generation of environmental stewards that will protect safe, clean water, and a love for our natural resources which are the building blocks in the foundation of vibrant local economies and healthy communities. Our vision is to foster communities where students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members realize that engagement in real environmental problem solving is an essential component of both education and community involvement.
