This microproject will transform one ton of processed jackfruit into over 10,000 nutritious meals for vulnerable people in Rio de Janeiro. By supporting community kitchens and social projects, it reduces hunger, prevents food waste, and shows how sustainable, plant-based foods can strengthen food security and social inclusion. In short, "1 Ton Against Hunger" will not only alleviate immediate hunger but also raise awareness of innovative and sustainable ways to ensure food security in Rio.
This project addresses food insecurity in Rio de Janeiro, where thousands depend on community kitchens for daily meals. While jackfruit is abundant and nutritious, much of it goes unused. By donating one ton of processed jackfruit, the project turns an underutilized resource into healthy meals, reducing hunger, food waste, and strengthening social programs.
The project will use donations to cover storage and distribution costs of one ton of processed jackfruit already available. This food will be delivered directly to four major social organizations in Rio de Janeiro, providing over 10,000 meals. By turning an abundant fruit into ready-to-use meals, the project ensures immediate food relief and strengthens community kitchens.
By demonstrating the viability of jackfruit as a large-scale food security solution, this initiative establishes a replicable model that integrates nutrition, sustainability, and community development. The project will contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2 (Zero Hunger), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 13 (Climate Action). This project has the potential to produce up to 40000 meals in less then one year.
