City Year Boston corps members provide academic support, attendance coaching, mentoring, afterschool programs and community and school improvements at 21 low-performing Boston schools. City Year seeks not only to improve students’ academic performance, but to foster the positive climate for learning and school pride that are necessary to turnaround low-performing schools. At one of City Year’s 21 partner schools in particular, the Dever-McCormack K-8 School (DMC) in Dorchester, school pride is a high priority. At the DMC, the school auditorium is one of the few public spaces in the school’s sprawling complex that can be used to unite students and foster a strong sense of community. It is used frequently by the more than 1,300 students who attend the school; however, the auditorium’s frayed stage curtain does not reflect the quality or aspirations of the DMC community. Resources from this microproject will go directly towards the purchase of a much needed new curtain to create a physical environment at the DMC that instills school pride and matches the high caliber of the students, teachers and administrators who spend their days there.
City Year Boston is extremely grateful for your generous donation to help purchase a new curtain
for the auditorium at the Dever-McCormack K-8 School in Dorchester. By supporting this project, you are contributing to the school spirit of the more than 1,300 students at the DMC and helping them stay in school and on track to graduate high school. Thanks to your contribution, the school has already been able to purchase a new stage curtain and apply a fresh coat of paint to the auditorium, revitalizing the school’s most community-oriented space and encouraging a positive environment for learning at the DMC. Thank you!
