Despite the fact that our microproject on the Give For Youth platform was not fully funded, NFTE Philadelphia’s year is progressing smoothly. We were thrilled with the donations we did receive towards classroom supplies and textbooks for our entrepreneurial programs, and hope to leverage Give For Youth further in the future. Combined with the contributions to and sponsorships of the NFTE Philadelphia Visionary Gala, held on November 29th, and we anticipate our microproject’s goal to provide the resources for four new classrooms will be reached. The donations we receive help us provide opportunities to teach students skills that help capture their creative energy, and give them a chance to succeed in the modern economy.
Fundamentally, we believe that by exciting low-income students about the possibilities of starting and owning their own business will improve their core skills, keep them in school until graduation, and encourage them to go to college or a trade school to get the education necessary to support themselves and their future families, as well as pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. According to NFTE Philadelphia Program Director Connor Krone, one such upcoming opportunity for students is a mobile application design camp, designed to “teach students how to program apps for their business ideas”. The idea of such a camp is to appeal to students who want to marry their business ideas with their love of technology, and thus hopefully impact a new group of young entrepreneurs in the process. With this and other exciting developments, NFTE Philadelphia is hoping to reach more students in the upcoming school year than ever before.
