Mathias is the kindest kid you'll ever know. Last year, while he was playing with friends he wanted to put out a fire and took a paint thinner bottle instead of water, the fire ended up reaching him and caused severe burns on his face. Although his difficult situation he loves coming to the centre and playing with his mates, but sometimes he's sad because of people scared sight. Mathias urgently needs a tissue expander to ensure his integral rehabilitation and help to increase his self esteem.
In our center in Peru, we receive on average one new patient that has suffered severe burns every day. 70% of these accidents happen due to hot liquids, 20% due to fire and they mostly affect children younger than 6 years old. In the case of Mathias, fire reached his face when he tried to put it out. They parents are divorced,and with much dedication mom brings him to ANIQUEM. For a full rehabilitation,Mathias still needs a tissue expander which help to minimize the scars in his face and neck.
Due to you, Mathias will have only unnoticeable scars in his face and neck and he will show us his beautiful smile again. In an operation we will insert a tissue expander to grow new skin that we can then implant in his face and neck. It'll let him be more confident of himself and don't be afraid of people scared sights anymore. He will have the opportunity of recover the full mobilization of his head without problems and enjoy the life every kid deserves to live.
Through one year of integral rehabilitation these 7 burned children will not only get the necessary medical treatment but will also learn how to live with their external and internal scars. Our ultimate goal is to improve their life quality, so that the kids are able to live a normal life again and convert them and their families into prevention ambassadors in their community. Together with the distribution of prevention messages they can help us to decrease the number of burn accidents in Peru.
