Dear friends,
We had a successful Kids Helping Kids campaign this past August. The two boys from Southern Oregon, Tayden (9yrs) and Crixus (6 yrs) were able to accompany their parents on a MedTreks trip and helped distribute the mosquito nets that the helped to fundraise for with HopeCore.
From their mother, Jenny D.:
After my first successful trip to Kenya in 2018 I knew that I needed to bring my family back to experience the beauty of Kenya and the people, especially our HopeCore team. After sharing the experience with my two boys (Tayden 9, and Crixus 7) they both couldn't wait for the opportunity to go to Kenya and "play with the kids" (the priority of children is always to play with other children). They knew that in order to go to Kenya they had to work on something to give back. As a family the boys decided they would raise money for bed nets as this was something they could give to kids. Tayden completed his science fair project on malaria eradication and both boys worked on fundraising throughout the year. Together they raised around $2,000 to purchase bed nets and had an understanding of why bed nets are critical for the lives of those in Kenya. They were very happy when during one clinic day they were able to give families bed nets. They were so proud to see the smiles on the faces of the mothers and were able to have a deeper appreciation of the true value of a bed net. Tayden and Crixus had an understanding that bed nets save lives, but to see the reactions from the mothers made the boys understand this is truly life-saving. They received many hugs and kisses and praises that day and left feeling like they need to continue to raise money for more nets. They had a goal of fundraising $10,000 so that they could give nets to 5,000 kids. Tayden and Crixus both say they are happy to know these families have nets and they are safe. The boys loved being able to play outside at the school and being surrounded by all the Kenyan kids. They are looking forward to returning next year.
