Keep the Develop Africa Computer Lab Running

Summary

For many students in Sierra Leone, the Develop Africa Computer Lab is more than a classroom-it's a pathway to opportunity, employment, and a brighter future. Each year, more than 180 students receive practical computer training that helps prepare them for higher education, careers, and entrepreneurship. However, soaring fuel prices and energy costs now threaten the sustainability of this vital program.

Challenge

Across Sierra Leone, rising fuel costs are creating significant hardships for families, students, and organizations alike. Fuel prices have increased dramatically over the past year, driving up transportation costs and the cost of delivering educational programs. Frequent power outages require the computer lab to rely heavily on generators to keep classes running. As fuel costs continue to climb, the expense of operating the lab has increased substantially.

Solution

The computer lab provides hands-on digital skills training for youth and young adults. This project will help cover the increased costs of generator fuel, electricity, equipment maintenance, and other essential operating expenses for six months. Your support will help ensure that rising fuel prices do not disrupt students' access to education and workforce development opportunities.

Long-Term Impact

Our project is not just a short-term fix; it represents a profound and enduring investment in the future. By offering quality educational opportunities, we equip them with the tools to rise above poverty and become independent, informed decision-makers. Access to computer training can change the trajectory of a young person's life. Students who gain digital skills are better equipped to pursue higher education, secure employment, start businesses, and support their families.
