Empowering South African Women

By Mehdeen Sehgal | Marketing and Development Associate

Sinanziwe, like many girls in South African townships, had to drop out of school to support her family. Soon after her mother died, Sinanziwe had to find a job as a domestic worker as her family couldn’t afford to send her to school. However, Sinianziwe had high aspirations for herself and did not give up on her dreams. Afrika Tikkun has provided Sinanziwe with access to resources that allowed her to continue her education. She is now in her second year of college and Afrika Tikkun is proud of her hard work and progress.

Click HERE to watch Sinanziwe tell her success story in this inspiring video by Afrika Tikkun’s partner, ABSA Bank.

Afrika Tikkun believes that educating girls and economically empowering them is an effective solution to address the barriers that impedes the development of South African women. Our ‘Cradle to Career’ Development Model provides women with skills, education and access to employment so that they can secure a sustainable livelihood for themselves and their families.

Additionally, we offer supplementary services and programs in order to address the wide range of challenges faced by women in South Africa and to ensure their holistic development. These services and programs include:

  • Primary Healthcare
  • Nutritional and Food Security Services
  • Psychological/Psychosocial services
  • Empowerment Program (mobilizing women to become human rights activists and take action against them)

We believe this comprehensive approach is the most effective way to redress the cycle of poverty for sustainable future of South African women.

Thank you for contributing to our cause and for helping Afrika Tikkun in creating pathways of upward mobility for South African women!
