Dear Supporters,
Since the launch of this project, Jenzera has been using time and resources to plan the “third interethnic school” which will start meeting later this year. This time the focus is on “territory after the peace talks.” The Colombian government and FARC rebels are wrapping up peace negotiation in Havana, Cuba. A big concern for indigenous and black communities, largely excluded from the talks, is what will happen to their lands once the peace talks end. The next stage of the school, for which this Global Giving funding helped plan preliminary activities, will organize discussion meetings for leaders from various Pacific coast communities to evaluate with the help of Jenzera staff and colleagues, the effects of a post-conflict reality on their lands, communities, and ethnic institutions. Pacific coast Afro-Colombian and indigenous communities have been the most affected by armed conflict, but excluded from high government decisions on economic or military activities in their lands.
