Improving Student Access Through Community Repairs

Traveling on community roads remains challenging for many due to damaged and unrepaired pathways. This is especially true in Chreave commune, where our school is located, as the area faces poor road access. These difficult conditions have made it hard for students and local residents to reach the school and their workplaces safely.

Recognizing this ongoing challenge, Salariin Kampuchea Organization has once again taken the initiative to repair the community roads just as we did in 2022, ensuring children and families can travel more easily. We have coordinated fundraising efforts and collaborated closely with the community to contribute to these vital repairs. Below is an update on the road improvement activities carried out last month with the support of our students and neighbours.

Collaboration with Community and Local Authorities

Our representative, Ravy, engaged in discussions with the commune chief and residents living along the roads to inform them about our road repair project and to seek their contributions. The commune chief warmly appreciated our initiative and gave official approval to proceed. In response, many community members generously donated funds to support the road repairs, demonstrating strong local commitment to this cause.

Road Repair Activities

Once we procured red stone and earth for the repairs, trucks delivered the materials to the site. Bulldozers redistributed the red earth to fill in the broken and hole-ridden sections of the roads. Although machines handled much of the heavy work, we called upon our hardworking students and villagers to assist by digging and carrying soil to areas near the school and their houses. Their efforts, carried out enthusiastically over two consecutive days alongside community members, were essential in completing the repairs.

Impact of the Repairs

Thanks to this joint effort, approximately 1,000 meters of road have been significantly improved. Students can now travel more easily and safely to the Salariin Kampuchea Learning Center even during rainy weather. Community residents living nearby also benefit from better road access. The increased accessibility has encouraged more children to enrol at our learning centre. Everyone involved has expressed deep satisfaction and gratitude for the upgraded roads, extending thanks to our school and generous donors.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

We sincerely thank all supporters, especially those contributing through GlobalGiving, for their invaluable financial support. With your help, we are confident in continuing and expanding the success of our non-formal education programs, alongside much-needed community infrastructure improvements.

We wish everyone happiness, health, and joy shared with family and friends!

Warmest regards,

The Salariin Kampuchea Team
