Thanks for helping families!

Loraine, our Diaper Drop Liasion in Puerto Rico, shares the following experience she had distributing diapers.
A couple of brother and sister sat down, they looked wary, cautious and nervous. Their eyes were so tired and full of unspoken need for help. I smiled at them and asked them how we could help out. They showed me a picture on a old phone of their bedridden sister. The sight was adorable for you could see the care but at the same time hard, because you could see the pain and the years passed in there.
I just said, "ok, what size is she?" while I reached out for the cloth bed pads. They sighed heavily and told us she dropped down to medium two weeks ago. I started praying they would fit and I presented them the Special Needs kit from Jake's Diapers and they just looked at me in disbelief while I started rambling on about the benefits and how they could use it.
How to put the diaper on the bed before carrying their sister on top of them and close the snaps. I explained about the cloth bed pad and when I looked at them in the eye again, the brother looked at me in silence, looked down and swallowed audibly before asking me how much was the kit and if layaway was possible because their sister had muscular dystrophy for years. She graduated top in her class and got accepted to work really fast to find out two weeks later she had that condition and just went back with other conditions to add up.
I smiled and said, "is free, do you think they will fit? his stare went blank and his sister started blinking away the tears (which to be honest I was grateful because I get nervous handling people crying).
Thanks for partnering with us and distributing dignity and hope. I encourage you to reach me at stephanie@jakesdiapers.org with any questions you may have. I'd love to hear from you.
