The education of girls is a priority for Jifundishe. For over 15 years, we have been supporting girls in schools all over Tanzania, and we want to continue this work in 2025. Our Houston Scholarship Fund has supported over 160 young Tanzanians in educational endeavours and provided them with the tools for a sustainable life. Our goal this year is $20,000 for the next group of girls; we have received $10,000, and we are still looking for the rest.
Many families are unable to send their daughters to secondary school due to financial constraints and gender disparities
"Jifundishe runs the Houston Scholarship Fund to support girls from marginalized families who are unable to afford secondary school. In many cases, families with limited resources prioritise sending boys to school first, leaving girls at home to take on household duties. Jifundishe believes that by supporting girls' education, we can help communities recognise the value and potential of the girl child, fostering greater gender equality."
The supported girls will continue to university where University graduates in Tanzania are exponentially more likely to gain employment, earn income, and contribute to local and national economies. Additionally, university graduates are exponentially more likely to re-invest in their own family's education one day. That's a lot of impact!
