The education sector in Pakistan is plagued by major issues such as a lack of functioning schools, ineffective government policies and gender discrimination. Access to technology is limited, even though computer literacy is a required skill for economic development in this increasingly globalized world. In order to combat these problems, Saif set-up two computer labs in underprivileged regions of Pakistan specifically for local youth with limited resources.
Chitral is a marginalised area of Pakistan with a very shaky education infrastructure. Technological skill-building opportunities for young people in Chitral are severely lacking. Without the proper training these youth have very low academic and economic prospects.
Saif wants to build another technological resource center in Chitral to enhance the students' computer skills, which will also aid and supplement their education. This center will be equipped with computer laboratories, and will strive to improve the quality of basic education by providing a better learning environment for elementary, middle, and high school students. Along with the computer lab the resource centre will also have a library and a studying space.
The goal is for more than 800 students to benefit from this newly built computer center. The more children from less privileged communities have access to computers, the more these children will change their entire outlook of learning and life. Not only will it improve their performance in schools, it will enable them to learn basic skills that can enhance their earning potential.
