We would like to thank you for helping fund our campaign to Rescue Primates from Illegal Trafficking. Thanks to your generosity and kindness, this ongoing campaign will be able to continue to rescue and protect the endangered and vulnerable apes and monkeys in Cambodia. We raised $3,175 which will help the Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team continue to stop this illicit trade from decimating primates populations throughout the region.
According to the IUCN, 48% percent of all primate species are threatened, and over 70% of Asian primates are facing extinction. In Cambodia, 9 out of the 10 primate species are either Endangered or Threatened. Every individual primate rescued is significant to the survival and continuation of the species.
From January to September, this dedicated team as rescued 32 various primates from the illegal wildlife trade! This included 17 vulnerable pig-tailed macaques, 7 long tailed-macaques, 4 vulnerable slow lorises, 3 endangered gibbons and 1 endangered yellow-cheeked gibbon. In that same period, they conducted 400 successful operations, rescued 1,855 other animals, and levied $40,932 in fines. Their important work ensures the safety and care of some of Asia's most precious and endangered species.
We would like to share with you some pictures of recent rescues that demonstrate that your gift is not only being put to good use, but is actually saving lives. All rescued animals were taken to Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center where they are rehabilitated by Wildlife Alliance staff in spacious enclosures to facilitate natural behavior. Those that cannot survive in the wild are given a life-long home, however their offspring are candidates for future reintroduction into the wild. Help provide veterinary care and rehabilitation for these rescued animals here!
Thank you again for your generous donation and for helping us spread the word about the danger these highly intelligent animals face. We hope you will continue to help us make a difference for wildlife by supporting the Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team in their efforts to Stop the Illegal Wildlife Trade.
