Hi, I'm Ashwini and I'm 18. I study in 12th. I don't know what I will study, but I know I want to go university. I grew up in red-light area and in my school, all teachers say "a sex worker's daughter will only be a sex worker." (But they used mean words!) I dream to learn so much English and go university. I want to show my teachers that I can be anything, not only sex worker. I got scholarship to 2 month English program in UK but I need help for room. Can you help me one step toward my dream??
Kids growing up in red-light area come from many different place in India. Sometimes we study in one language then change school and start 1st grade in new language. This is good because we know many language, even I know 4 language!But in India for having "good career," English is key. I am lucky for last 5 years I'm learning English, because many kids in my area never get to. So I'm dreaming to go to university and it is very important for me to learn English so I can help more kids like me.
I never learn much English, so I apply for the English camp at Studio Cambridge. Camp people are so wonderful they give me scholarship for tuition! I want to go for this program because I dream to study university abroad and I want to see if I can cope. I know you're thinking it's so much money for a girl. But it's not for me only, it's for all girls who listen every day that "your mother is sex worker and you will be too" - I want to inspire them also for study more and for chase their dream.
Two year ago my mom died and I have no family so nobody helping me and I give up my dreams. I was think I finish 12 and do some small job. But last year I came Kranti and I learn to be proud of my mother and community and have big dream. So now I dream to go to UK for camp and study! I wish I can tell my mother I am proud of her and I wish she could see me, she would be also proud. After I study camp and uni, I want to help kids in red-light area and most for those with no moms or no dreams.
