This project will support hundreds of children with disabilities in Kenya and Zambia by providing access to education, essential health care services, and access to assistive devices. The support will enable these disadvantaged children to gain independence, reach their full potential and thrive. HATW would like to support these vulnerable children to overcome the challenges they face.
Children with disabilities are one of the most disadvantaged groups in society. In both Kenya and Zambia, children with disabilities face significant challenges, including poverty, malnutrition, and limited access to education and healthcare. Providing support to these children can dramatically improve their well-being, education, and social inclusion. Support systems, access to assistive devices, and inclusive education play a crucial role in empowering these children and their families.
A variety of initiatives will be promoted including providing wheelchair maintenance, modifications and follow-up visits, access to home-based therapy and medical treatment, improved quality of education with the provision of books, equipment, uniforms and adaptations to school buildings to ensure equal access to education and inclusive learning. Support systems help integrate children with disabilities into their communities, fostering a sense of belonging and participation.
In Kenya and Zambia, providing support to children with disabilities can have a profound, long-term positive impact on their lives, their families, and the wider community. Support that specially meets the needs of the children can lead to improved health, education, social inclusion, and future economic opportunities.
