Summary

You can help 29 high school students participate in the JA High School Heroes program, gaining work readiness skills they can apply in a service-learning opportunity. Refining critical thinking, problem solving, presentation, leadership, and communication skills, they will gain valuable 21st Century skills that will ensure their success in the workforce. They will culminate the experience by passing on essential financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship skills to younger students.

Challenge

A recently released Gallup poll of 18 to 35 year old individuals shows that respondents who had a comparatively high degree of exposure to such skills in their last year of school were twice as likely to strongly agree that they are successful and valued in their current jobs. The skill that computed as most closely connected to later work quality was real-world problem solving. High school students will learn these skills and teach to younger students in the JA High School Heroes program.

Solution

To turn potential into leadership, we must help students understand the importance of becoming lifelong learners; of recognizing that education is the stepping stone that gives the power to reach for any career to which they aspire; and that working hard begins in elementary school and will establish a road map in their lives that will direct them to excel as they become adults. High school students hone their potential to lead, serving as role models inspiring younger students.

Long-Term Impact

With your support, 29 students will be one step closer to being successful and contributing members of society, inspired to make smart academic and economic choices through Junior Achievement programs. This means less young people will fall into poverty when they become adults.
