For many students in Sierra Leone, the Develop Africa Computer Lab is more than a classroom-it's their first step out of poverty and toward opportunity. Each year, more than 180 students gain practical training in computer literacy that prepares them for today's workforce. However, frequent power outages, operating costs, and equipment maintenance threaten the sustainability of this vital program. This microproject will help cover the costs to keep the computer lab running for 6 months.
In today's digital economy, computer skills are essential, yet many young people in Sierra Leone lack access to computers, reliable electricity, and training. Financial hardship and limited infrastructure create barriers to learning. Frequent power outages disrupt classes, while ongoing costs for electricity, generator fuel, maintenance, and materials make it difficult to sustain consistent, high-quality training.
Develop Africa operates a computer lab that provides hands-on training for youth. This microproject will help cover essential operating costs, ensuring the lab remains open and reliable. Students will receive consistent training, building practical digital skills that prepare them for academic success, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities. The program also introduces students to real-world applications, helping them develop confidence and readiness for today's digital economy.
This project helps unlock long-term opportunity. Youth who gain computer skills are better equipped to pursue education, secure employment, and start small businesses. Over time, they become more self-reliant and able to support their families and communities. They also gain confidence, problem-solving abilities, and exposure to a wider world of possibilities. By sustaining this lab, we are helping build a generation of digitally skilled, confident young leaders driving progress in Sierra Leone.
