NFTE Chicago just finished up another successful year! Students from six of our schools across the metropolitan area recently competed in our 11th Annual Region Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. Chicago Tech Academy, CICS-Longwood, EPIC Academy, Perspectives Leadership Academy, and Schurz High School were all represented by students who had honed their business plan pitches in earlier rounds of the competition. Students were competing not only for $5,000 in venture grants, but also for the chance to represent NFTE Chicago, and their businesses, at the National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in the Bay Area.
The students gave their best pitches at Morningstar on the morning of May 21st. The business plan is the culmination of NFTE's classroom curriculum, a way to merge the business, marketing, math, and finance lessons that are just a part of our program. Even though our microproject did not reach its Global Giving goal, NFTE Chicago still provides students with copies of Entrepreneurship: Owning Your Future, and Exploring Career for the 21st Century so that they can make informed choices about their future. NFTE strives to let students control their destiny, be it in entrepreneurship, pursuing higher education, or finding a job they are passionate about. The students that we serve in Chicago will still have NFTE’s classes, and the lessons learned throughout the year.
