Thank you for helping Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue with Chacco's veterinary care. This is an update on his current well-being.
Chacco's physical injuries have been resolved through his two surgeries - and now we are dealing with his psychological challenges. Up until recently, Chacco would often thrash around in his cage, sometimes to the point of re-injuring himself. He needed to be housed in a cushioned crate to avoid the re-injuries. His veterinarian has worked a minor miracle to make him feel comfortable with being in a typical bird cage, as shown in the picture. That behaviorial adjustment took many weeks of hospitalization - a long process, but a necessary step for Chacco to achieve a longer-term, higher quality of life.
The next step in making Chacco adoptable is to reduce his dependence on his human guardians - he wants attention almost 24/7 now, and throws temper tantrums when he does not get that level of attention. We are cautiously optimistic about being able to effect this further behaviorial adjustment. Watch this page for further updates about Chacco. To help other birds like Chacco, consider giving to Mickaboo's main GlobalGiving project.
Again, our thanks for your generosity and support for Chacco - it has helped him achieve his current status on his journey toward a full recovery.
We at Mickaboo wish all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year.
