In Milwaukee Public Schools, where the high school graduation rate is only 63%, City Year serves in 8 schools with 3rd through 9th grade students to get them on track for success.

As near-peers, corps members are uniquely positioned to form a strong bond with students to help them succeed. In partnership with school staff, City Year monitors student performance on the early warning indicators of dropping out - poor attendance, disruptive behavior and poor course performance in math or English. Through in-class support, intervention sessions and after-school programming City Year corps members provide support to put students on track for success.
Students who progress to 10th grade with their peers are four times more likely to graduate than students who fall behind. City Year's Long-Term Impact goal is to ensure 80% of the students in the schools that City Year serves reach 10th grade on track and on time, serving the majority of at-risk students in the locations where City Year serves. City Year focuses on the communities where the dropout challenge is most concentrated, ultimately serving two-thirds of the nation's dropouts
