This is a forum FOR youth BY youth. This event brings together over 200 Boys and Girls Clubs youth, aged 15 to 19, from across Canada to discuss ways to make their future - and the future of all Canadian young people - a better one. The next National Youth Forum will take place May 5-9, 2013 at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC! Being given the opportunity to attend the youth forum makes our youth stronger, and in turn, strengthens the future of our communities.
We live in a very connected, fast-paced world that may make some of us feel like we're always "on". Online. On call. On demand. On the go. On the ball. On pins and needles. Technology has truly changed the way we interact and the more we use it, the more it acts as a lens through which we experience the world. Oasis 2013 is an opportunity to take a step back from the hectic, technology-based world, and go forward with new skills, tools and ideas on how to live healthier, more balanced lives.
At Oasis 2013 BGCC National Youth Forum, we're going to press pause. With guidance from staff, the forum is planned, organized and facilitated FOR youth BY youth within the Boys and Girls Club membership around issues most relevant to them. Youth will come together to discover ways to get in touch with their roots, get reacquainted with nature and engage in the world around them. Delegates will bring back their new found knowledge to the other members of the Club and their communities.
For many of the youth involved, this unique opportunity allows them to see places they have never seen and collaborate with youth they've never met. New friendships are formed, understanding and unity are created, and youth return to their Clubs with a greater sense of belonging and purpose (not to mention a wide array of information, knowledge, skills and lifelong memories).
