Avni, a Grade 4 student from a village in rural community of India, leaves mists of dust behind her as she rushes back home. She read something new at school and is eager to share the information with her mother. Avni enjoys learning and loves narrating stories to her friends in the classroom. This would have been unbelievable just one year back!
Back then, Avni made constant excuses just to miss school because she wasn't performing as well as some of her classmates.
"My other children didn't seem to be facing similar issues at school like Avni. So, when she stopped attending school regularly and helped out at home instead I didnt think there was a problem. I just told myself that she wasnt capable of doing it, she wasnt interested - so what does it matter if she doesnt study. When the Educat Girls' volunteer spoke to me, they explained that education is very important and that as a mother it was one of the best gifts I could give my child", says Avni's mother.
Educate Girls' remedial learning kit - Gyan Ka Pitara (GKP) which translates to Repository of Knowledge - has been designed to build fundamental skills in literacy and numercy for children across Grades 3-5.
As learning became fun through the GKP's various tools, activities and individual practice worksheets, Avni's attendance and performace both got better.
Today, the sme Avni who couldnt even read, is an A-grade student in English, Maths and Hindi
