In India,Alirajpur is one of the most educationally backward districts in the fifth most populous state of Madhya Pradesh.With a mere literacy rate of 37.2%,the education system in Alirapur is clearly in dire straits.The lack of access to education is exacerbated by its dismal quality.This project will help in implementing specially designed learning curriculum to improve the learning outcomes for children in grades 3-5 in English,Hindi & Math in primary schools of Alirajpur.
According to Census 2011,the literacy rate of Alirajpur was a mere 37.2%, one of the lowest in the country. ASER Report (2016) states that in Alirajpur, only 29.2% in grade 3-5 can read grade 1 level text while only 12% of children can do basic substraction. 8.6% children in Grade 4 can form simple sentences in English in Madhya Pradesh. This project will help support schools with learning kits which will help build competencies of children in grades 3-5 in Hindi, English & Math in Alirajpur.
To equip children with improved competencies, Educate Girls partnered with Sol's Arc,a pedagody expert,to design a learning curriculum sensitive to the needs of the most underserved & marginalized children in India.The Gyan Ka Pitara,GKP (translates to Repository of Knowledge) kit is an activity based pedagogy kit with context specific worksheets that suit the learning needs of children in classes 3- 5.These learning kits are implemented by Educate Girls' trained volunteers in the program areas.
Children,especially girls,in rural areas are often forced to adhere to regressive norms & are confined by household chores, agricultural activities & even early marriages.This project will improve learning competencies for 55,555 children in Alirajpur district,Madhya Pradesh.Better learning outcomes translate to a more competitive education, leading to more equal opportunities.In the long run, this will allow them to rise out of the regressive cycle of discrimination & poverty.
