Our brand new education center has opened and it’s stunning! Five years in the making, it features green classrooms, a library, and a bright new kitchen with a fuelefficient stove, and a fully equipped computer lab, complete with high-speed Internet. Our computer lab is the first of its kind in the city of Machakos.
Tech Training: Students in our pilot computer class are learning web design and basic programming languages. They will hone their skills in internships at companies and government offices. The class is open to our own students, and also to paying students from the community, who offset the cost. We’ll use what we learned during this pilot class to launch an expanded class in January.
Parent Empowerment Program: 71 parents and guardians are learning techniques for growing healthy food without much land. Parents produce kale and other vegetables to supplement our lunches and to sell on their own.
Jitegemee board members, volunteers, and interns have donated an estimated $90,000 worth of services so far in this year alone.
Thank you for your continued support of Jitegemee!
