With your generous support the LA Conservation Corps continues the Grant the Gift of Sight program for LA Corps participants. Since the begining of the program, five young adults have received an eye exam and lenses from the program. Roger Gibons(featured in picture above on left)* is a corpsmember in the Transition program whom recently received eyeglasses from the program.
While in the Transition program, Roger expressed a need to get glasses to be ready for college and to pass his driving test. He worked in the LA Conservation Corps for the last year as a gardening specialist. He learned many valuable lessons in the program including being responsible for his and others safety in the workplace. He realized he also needed glasses to be a safer worker. He had a difficult time with his vision at work and school for a year and was unsure of how to access quality eye care. Roger received an eye check up and a pair of eyeglasses from LA Eye Clinic and is now ready to pursue his goals. One of his greatest goals is to attend college in Fall 2014 to study music engineering and psychology. He is in the process of taking his CA permit test and will start college Summer 2014. Roger was recently invited to serve as an intern at the non-profit, American Indian Partnership for Families, where he will assist with program coordination and garden maintenance. Your contribution ensures young adults like Roger* have access to quality eyecare.
