This project will provide a year of English Education for Omene. Omene joined the English in Mind (EIM) Institute in 2015 as an intermediate student. Her dedication and active involvement in class have been admired by her teachers and classmates ever since. Omene has a job as a secretary but she wants to improve her English skills and start a career in Haiti's growing hotel and tourism industry. But Omene can't afford to pay for her own school. That's why she needs donors like you!
More than two thirds of Haitian adults lack formal employment and more than 50% of the population lives on less than $2 a day. Despite high unemployment, there is actually a shortage of skilled labour in Port-au-Prince. English speakers can find work in hotels, restaurants, and offices, yet there are virtually no free English schools. Most Haitians, including Omene, cannot afford to attend these schools. Without the means to develop their skills, many are left trapped in poverty.
Your donations will help support EIM's running costs, so all that Omene has to bring is her text-book and hunger for knowledge. By ensuring that Omene can continue studying English at the English in Mind Institute, you will help her develop the skills she needs to find better, more secure employment.
By helping Omene to develop her English skills you'll give her the means to support herself and her family into the future. This will let her escape poverty for good.
