Our recent Christmas Appeal raised vital funds for our disability projects in Kenya and Zambia and thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we are able to continue to make meaningful and significant progress towards improving the lives of children with disabilities.
Children with disabilities in Kenya and Zambia face deep-rooted stigma, poverty, and a lack of access to essential services. Our projects strive to provide these children and their families with the support, care and opportunities they need to thrive, enabling these children to reach their full potential.
Your support makes all the difference, and we are able to continue to assist these children in many ways.
In Kenya, our partner the Disability Community Centre (DCC) continues to support children and youths with disabilities to improve the quality of their lives. With your support the DCC will be able to continue to distribute high-quality wheelchairs to children and youths with disabilities, wheelchairs designed to meet the specific needs of individuals, significantly improving mobility. The DCC will also continue to provide its vital home-based therapy care, supporting children with severe and life-limiting disabilities. Monthly visits by trained physiotherapists enhances the quality of life for these children whilst also assisting close family members to understand how to manage distressing symptoms. Supplementary food is also provided to improve the nutrition of these children.
In Zambia, our partner Sisabelo Saka Inclusive School (SSIS), supports blind and visually impaired children, who otherwise would not attend school. Without access to education, these children would struggle to develop literacy, numeracy, and essential life skills, limiting their independence. Support, including nutritious meals, uniforms and transport to school enable these children to access an education, develop essential skills, gain confidence and foster personal growth.
Also in Zambia, our dedicated partner Pamodzi Ndi Ana (PNA) aims to improve the lives of children with disabilities with the provision of essential healthcare, education and mobility aids. PNA provides specially designed wheelchairs to children with disabilities, wheelchairs that can cleverly be adapted and altered by adjusting the frames as the child grows. With your support HATW can assist PNA to travel to remote areas to undertake wheelchair follow-up visits and clever modifications to ensure the children are positioned correctly. During follow-up visits, families are provided with a bag of maize to reduce malnutrition.
Supporting our disability projects has a significant impact, by improving access to education, healthcare, and enhancing social inclusion. Our projects aim to support families and individuals, reduce stigma within communities, and provide greater confidence and independence, enabling these children to thrive and participate more fully in daily life.
Thank you for your support, we are incredibly grateful.
