Supplementary education support for slum girls appearing for 10th and 12th standard board examinations and helping them in their higher education like enrolling in colleges for undergraduate courses. We are planning to provide supplementary education support like tuition classes, special coaching camps in Mathematics, English and Science. Providing additional learning materials related to examinations. Organize workshops on preparing and facing examinations, time management.
In the Chennai slums where we work, most of the girls now complete high school / higher secondary school level, that is a big progress. But most of them stop there, by 16-18 years because of failure, or low marks or higher cost of college education. If a girl fails in her examinations, parents think about the marriage of girls and most of them marry by 17-18 years become teenage mothers. If a girl attends college, she can postpone her marriage up to 21 years of age.
We will provide supplementary education support particularly for 10th and 12th standard girls. We will organize special tuition before examinations that is during January - March months. Conduct special coaching's in Mathematics, English and science for girls who are weak in these subjects, also preparing for examinations and time management workshops. Provide supplementary nutrition support during this period. Organize parents meetings to discuss how they can support their daughters.
300 girls that is 300 families life will be changed, these girls will not go for their parents jobs like domestic work, construction work, street vending, that means they come out of the poverty cycle. Today's girls are tomorrows women so to achieve gender equality we have start with educating girls; an educated woman also provides good education and health care to their children. Number of child marriages, unsafe abortions will be reduced.
