Report: G2G-Girls to Graduates

We thank all the donors who supported in our attempt to provide supplementary education support for the slum girls who are appearing for 10^th and 12^th standard board examinations. Even though we could not able to collect the full amount as planned we could able to collect considerable amount of donations, particularly comparing to our earlier micro project.  “Many things we need can wait. The child cannot. Now is the time his bones are formed, his mind developed. To him we cannot say tomorrow, his name is today”. Gabriela Mistral.  Like that their board examinations also cannot wait, so we have organized and implemented all the programmes as planned we could able to collect some local donations, got the free service of school teachers and volunteers. The results of these board examinations play an important role in the lives of the girl children. If they fail, their parents will immediately think about marriages not the next examinations.

We have organized weekend workshops on managing examinations stress, time management, ways of preparing for the examinations.  300 adolescent girls benefitted from these programmes. Girl children also used our learning centers to study for the examinations.   In addition to that we have organized tuition classes for Mathematics, Science and English in 5 schools in our working area. Nearly 400 girls and boys benefitted from these programmes.  These classes are organized in the schools with the help of school teachers.  We usually pay some honorarium for school teachers for this extra work.  This time most of the school teachers understanding our work and the shortage of money did not expected honorarium for tuition classes.

Now the examinations for 12^th standard is over and 10^th standard examinations have started. We hope all these girls would pass their examinations. We are now planning for their summer programmes and career guidance programmes.   In India for poor families and particularly for girls’ education is the only way to come up in life and 10^th and 12^th standard examinations results play an important role. So, we have already started planning for the next supplementary education programme because we have learned that for this important programme we have to plan in advance and raise the necessary resources well in advance.
