The girl R lost her father and mother barely manages to earn enough for herself. Seeing her plight, Sphoorti Foundation brought the child to the premises.
*The Change
The girl R had very poor nutrition levels, absolutely no hygiene and serious behavioral issues. She had untidy hair, skin infections and dental health was abysmal.
After two weeks of improving her health and appearance, we sent her to school in July 2014. She interacts well with her classmates in school and Sphoorti inmates of all ages.
We are sending her to a private school (English medium) and providing quality education. In addition, we are providing tuition support and counseling sessions for R and a few other children. This has been possible through the largesse of donors like Microsoft and conscious efforts of our staff members, volunteers and school teachers.
R says that she likes her Math teacher and wants to become a teacher when she grows up.
*The Conclusion
The story of R has been from that of a destitute child transforming to a healthy and confident young student.
Her case study is a demonstration that sincere efforts directed towards child welfare will yield good results. From an impoverished child, R is looking forward to active participation in mainstream society.
With such approach, we can hone more children from destitute backgrounds into assets of the nation. Inspiring stories like these will provide inspiration to more children.
The Board and Staff of Sphoorti have more confidence and motivation to churn out more such success stories.
