In Zimbabwe now

By tanya weaver | executive director

My name is Tanya and I am in Zimbabwe, southern Africa right now. I visit from time to time to make sure that what we've promised the children is being delivered to them.  In this case, I am making sure that AIDS orphans are receiving seeds, training and support so that they can eat healthfully and can remain healthy and full, even during times of drought.  Seeds for 2500 orphaned families are being distributed as I type - beets, cabbage, spinach, tomatoes, carrots, onions, beans, greenbeans, and so much more!  Each family is receiving 7 packets of seeds so that they can have a variety of veggies on their plates, to complement their sadza (a corn based mush that is the "filler" for most zimbabweans).

It is so exciting to see little seedlings coming up, showing us that the seeds are viable, healthy and ready to be planted by all the orphan families.  Along with the seeds the families receive training in conservation farming - how to grow veggies in arid areas.  This is good, as the rains have not been good this year in Zimbabwe and we expect a shortage of food affecting a large percentage of the country. Our kids will be ok, though - they will have their gardens and they know how to grow with little to no water.  Because of YOU, kids like Charles and Dickens and Suzan and Sipho will eat.  Because of YOU, they have hope.

Thank you fo rmaking this project happen...it's so good to be here and to see the miracle seeds that will change lives.
