We would love to offer computer training to the girls in our school and afterschool program. Many of the older girls have literacy skills, but would benefit from computers that are loaded with typing programs and Microsoft Office to learn the basics, as well as learn email and other skills that would help prepare them for their future jobs!
The girls in our program do not have access to computers currently to learn skills that could, in the future, allow them to take a job in the growing number of administrative offices in their home, the capital city of Liberia, Monrovia.
Having access to computers will enhance the literacy program the girls are currently involved in, expanding their skills beyond the classroom, where computers are not taught and access to computers is not available. We would love to offer the girls basic computer skills training.
Educating one girl changes, well, everything. Here's why: When a girl in the developing world receives seven or more years of education, she marries 4 years later and has 2.2 fewer children. An extra year of primary school boosts girls' eventual wages by 10 to 20%. An extra year of secondary school: 15 to 25%. When women and girls earn income, they reinvest 90% of it into their families. When we invest in girls we all win.
