On the 14th of November 2004, on the occasion of the children’s Day celebration in India, the ‘Manna Meals on wheels project was launched in two major cities of Goa, namely, Mapusa and Vasco; Today it has spread to Calangute, Panaji and Margao. Every day, meals are prepared, packed, transported and distributed to the hungry children, needy (old & sick) people who work in the market place selling polythene bags, rummaging through garbage bins for reusable articles, begging for alms, working as loaders or cleaning fish. Very often some of the children on street, who work all day long for a paltry sum of money, go to bed hungry as the money is taken away by their parents who spend it on alcohol or gamble it away. They come to the spot where the food packets are distributed and so are away from the evil which they otherwise are forced to witness. With the slogan of let no child go hungry we ensure that the children get at least one hot balanced meal a day. Though our focus is feeding children, we also feed old and needy people. Every noon in the three cities; Calangute, Panaji and Margao, poor people await eagerly the staff who distributed around 250 lunch packets on a daily basis.Our staff not only distribute food packets to these unfortunate people but speak to them and enquire about their situation, comforting them with kind words. They also inform them about El Shaddai‘s purpose and how their children‘s lives can be transformed with us.
