Fundraising event ""If I had one wish"

CONTEXT “A NEW LIFE PAGE”

The statistics from the Survey on Sustainable Development Goals for Children and Women in Vietnam, conducted by the General Statistics Office in 2020-2021, reveal that nationwide, 98.1% of children under 5 years old are registered for birth certificates, with 97.2% of them having birth certificates.
This means there are still thousands of children without birth certificates.
Once a child obtains a birth certificate:
They should be enrolled in school.
They need access to education, nutrition, and comprehensive healthcare support.

INTRODUCTION TO THE “IF I HAD A WISH” CAMPAIGN

To continue the missions of the organization and the “A new life page” initiative, creating opportunities for underprivileged children to access education, nutrition, physical and mental health, helping them overcome difficulties in life, providing them with more chances and motivation for personal development. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Tiger, MSD United Way Vietnam launches the annual fundraising and communication campaign “15 Years of Solidarity - Give a child a new life page” and the event “If I had a wish”.

The event aims to:

Create an inspiring space for underprivileged children in Ho Chi Minh City.
Call for collective support to help realize the dreams of every child, especially those without birth certificates and children facing difficult circumstances.
Not just wishes, let's work together to ensure a bright future for every child.

EVENT "IF I HAD A WISH" ON JANUARY 20th, 2024
1. NOT JUST A WISH
Check-in at the wish tree and send wishes/greetings on wish cards.
Explore the fundraising booth of MSD United Way Vietnam, becoming a sponsor for the "A new life page" project.
2. WHAT IS YOUR WISH?
Engage in conversations with your future dreams through three dialogues with celebrities and successful individuals from various fields. This helps participants envision themselves or role models in the future they aspire to be.
3. GIVE A CHILD A NEW LIFE PAGE
Provide birth certificates to children supported by MSD United Way Vietnam.
Distribute Tet gifts to 100 children.
Express gratitude to sponsors and accompanying ambassador.

RESULTS

Campaign Impact:

Number of engagements for the event "If I had a wish":
1.1K+ views on the live stream on the MSD United Way Vietnam fanpage during the event day
10K+ naturally reached individuals (organic)
110 interactions (50 reactions, 44 comments, and more than 15 shares)

Shared articles and images have helped MSD United Way Vietnam spread to the community the campaign's message of engagement, helping the campaign become known and thereby received a lot of love.

“A NEW LIFE PAGE” STORY

The dream story of 9-year-old Nguyen Thanh Duy, an aspiring swimmer and talented Judo athlete.

In conversation 1 - Nurturing dreams with Athlete Anh Vien at the "If I had a wish" event, Duy shared that his childhood dream was to become a professional swimmer like Anh Vien. However, he is currently a talented Judo athlete. When asked about this "switch," he emotionally explained that “My dream was to be a swimmer, but I chose to learn Judo to protect my sister, who was a person with disabilities”.

Ms. Anh Vien was the one who sparked Duy’s dream, with his passion and desire for swimming and winning as many medals as Ms. Anh Vien, Duy immediately asked his mother to allow him to learn to swim. But due to unfavored conditions, Duy did not get proper training of skills, only basic skills such as freestyle swimming and breaststroke swimming.

Through the conversation with his idol, the 4th grade boy gained more motivation and passion, overcoming challenging circumstances to pursue his dream. After the conversation, Anh Vien encouraged Duy, saying, "Every journey is difficult, but the sweet reward comes afterward."
