Project closure report

Communities living in the Arid and Semi-Arid Areas in the developing world face acute water shortages occasioned by poor or non-existent environmental conservation, climate change and lack of proper planning by the local authorities. Compounded by their lack of capacity to often standup for themselves or lead in mitigation measures that would ensure they have sufficient water supply, the local community are often left to be depended on well-wishers who supply water for free to the communities or business people who often provide the water but at unreasonably high costs.

The “Equipping Mutulani Borehole for 2000 children and women” project was aimed at easing the burden through creating of a sustainable water source for the community. Buoyed by the already sunk borehole at Mutulani Secondary School, this project targeted equipping the borehole with a water pump and a collection tank to enable the schools and the community have access to the water available from the borehole was conceived and posted on GlobalGiving in May 2019.

By the time it was retired in August 2019, this micro-project had only raised $445. This amount was well below our target and thus it necessitated a rethink on how to move the project forward. In this regard, the aim of this micro-project and two other projects within the Mutulani area have been consolidated in to one project that would enable streamlined fundraising efforts towards the community having a sustainable source of water. The funds from this micro-project will therefore be pooled together with those from the other two projects to ensure that the community achieves its goal.

We will always remain indebted to all our donors who joined us in this micro-project. For their support and goodwill, we shall ensure that the combined efforts from all those interested in this project leads to the successful equipping of the borehole and ensuring that the overarching goal of a sustainable water supply system and improved sanitation conditions of this area is improved.
