Romi's Way has been approached by local NGOs working with children in residential care homes (RCH) who are extremely vulnerable, traumatised and in need of gentle and effective therapies. Romi's Way and our staff are applying Phychodynamic Equine Assisted Trauma Therapy (PEATT) assistance with our ponies, and are in need of training 2 other staff members with the PEATT and would need to open a new therapy group to assist these children (10-20 individuals with weekly sessions for 1 year).
Support the healing, trauma recovery, emotional regulations and mitigate adulthood behavior issues for children living in Residential Care Homes (RCH) around Coimbra region in Portugal. This activity would include weekly sesssions (group and individually supported) for a year with two ponies owned by Romi's Way.
Children face numerous challenges that can negatively impact their emotional regulation. Children lvingin in RCHs usually experience a series of adverse childhood experiences that impact not only on their emotion regulation abilities, but also on their proneness to compassion as well as on their perception of the emotional climate of the RCH. As equines do not abide by human social constructs and concepts they can be abstinent without countertransference and be excellent therapists for children
There have been several studies that have investigated the effectiveness of EAT in addressing various mental health concerns. Equine Assisted Therapy has emerged as a promising approach for promoting positive behavior change in young people who are considered "at risk". Therefore, these session can be healing and supporting, but also mitigate adulthood behavior issues (i.e. crime, addictions, aggression) effectively
