The project will build community level platforms especially for women and conduct participatory learning and action sessions focussed on domestic violence, reproductive health, nutrition, gender sensitivity, participation, self advocacy tools, behavioural change communication, government service provisions. It will enhance capabilities of women to identify and address the issues affecting them.
Uttar Pradesh where project is implemented is performing low on gender indicators in India. It is reflected on the indicators such as sex ratio 899 women per 1000 men, 59% literacy among women, maternal mortality rate is 292 per lakh, transition of adolescent girls from primary to secondary education is very low when compared with boys, more than 50% girls are married before attaining age of 18 years. Further, women suffer from deprivations due to lack of accurate information.
The project will organise women into self help groups to provide platform for identification of their issues and devising mechanisms to address them on their own. Project will integrate participatory learning and action sessions focussed on their needs such as maternal health, safety, nutrition, hygiene. It will build women with capabilities for self advocacy on their rights, demand for services such as maternal health, safe water, sanitation.
It will contribute in positioning women and adolescent girls living in poverty stricken slums, address their deprivations and improve services such as health, nutrition, education, hygiene, water, sanitation, skill development, banking for their development. It will contribute in building positive behaviours, attitudes and support leading to prevention of early marriages, gender inequalities, continued education
