Hunger is killing more than Coronavirus in Nigeria. Millions of Nigerians observing the lockdown lack the food and income for their families to survive. It is worse for disenfranchised and homeless women who derived their meager income from daily paid jobs and alms begging. The lockdown has made it impossible for them to go about their daily activities which thereby left them with no food to eat and their children, no protective equipment and in high risk of contacting the COVID 19.
We want to reduce the effect of hunger, lack of Personal Protective Equipment and sexual violence that on the surge now to a minimal level. This will be done by providing relief in terms of food to the family, Health education, expose them to alternative ways of generating income during this pandemic and also sensitize them on steps to take in protecting themselves from sexual and domestic violence or any form of abuse. The microproject will distribute foods personal protective equipment for 500 families, organize health education, how to make hand made face mask and sanitizer from locally made materials. the micro project will also establish the women on starting a small business in face mask making as an alternative business to continue to sustain them and their families.
This project sustainably improves the health, economic and social status of 250 young women, who bring progress to their family and communities. The vocational skills and university education expands one's choice for the source of revenue, thereby reducing risky sexual behaviors and improving health for the woman and her family. Empowerment and education equip women with greater resources, options to decision-making, freedom from violence, and appropriation for how to better their lives.
