This project will pay the medical bills, provide food, safe temporary housing, clothing, and replacement learning materials for students of federal polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State, South East Nigeria, who survived a hostel building collapse on July 27, 2026. They are stranded in the hospital, left with nothing, and unsure where their next meal will come from. The intervention will help them recover from this trauma, rebuild their life and return to school.
The collapse of the 60-room student hostel has left students trapped, homeless, and without food, clothing, books, or other personal belongings. Two student has died, three have been rescued, and rescue efforts are still ongoing. Some survivors remain stranded in the hospital because their families cannot pay their medical bills, while others risk hunger, and dropping out of school. This project will meet the survivors' urgent needs, including medical, housing, clothing and education supports.
This intervention will pay the survivors' medical bills so their treatment can continue. It will provide food, clothing, safe temporary housing for those left homeless, and replace books and other learning materials lost in the collapse. It will also provide counselling and school support to help survivors recover, leave the hospital, secure safe accommodation, and return to their studies.
The project will help survivors regain stability, continue their education, and avoid dropping out due to medical bills, homelessness, or lost learning materials. Safe housing and counseling will aid their recovery, while continued schooling will give them a chance to complete their education and build secure futures.
