EDUCATION… A WAY TO LEARN

Udhavum Ullangal’ s main focus of activity is Education. We believe that educating underprivileged children is the surest way to help them write a new future for themselves.

A way to learn initiative helps in transforming children’s life and we have a range of initiative to aid this transformation.  The   Poor   students have been extended the education grant to pursue their education by means of fees, uniform, note books, school bags etc. This   GIFT OF EDUCATION, we fondly mention is being carried out for the past fifteen  years benefiting 1000 Students every year throughout Tamil Nadu, total cost of the project reaching Rs.40 lacs.  WE SUPPORT CHILDREN BASED ON REFERRALS, SO TO ENSURE THAT OUR AID REACHES THOSE WHO WILL MAKE BEST USE OF IT, WE INSIST THAT EACH CHILD SCORES A MINIMUM OF 60% IN THEIR EXAMS. ASSUMING THEY DO THIS, THEY WILL RECEIVE FEES AND SUPPLIES THROUGHOUT THEIR SCHOOL LIFE. 

MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME - STARTED IN 2008.  THE STUDENTS WE SUPPORT OFTEN HAVE PARENTS WHO ARE POOR, OVERWORKED AND NOT VERY WELL EDUCATED. AS SUCH, A LARGE NUMBER OF THESE STUDENTS ARE UNABLE TO COPE WITH THE CHALLENGES THAT SCHOOL LIFE PUTS BEFORE THEM. WITHOUT PROPER GUIDANCE, THEIR PERFORMANCE BEGINS TO FALTER AND A STEADY NUMBER OF THEM DROP OUT OF SCHOOL.

Our Mentorship Programme serves to reduce school dropouts by:

• Helping students gain self- confidence and develop a positive attitude
• Keeping students focused on their education and personal development
• Keeping the focus of the students  in  education through constant mentoring
• Imparting  value based education for the students

Udhavum Ullangal's flagship program first Mentorship for 2015 - 2016 started at 09.30 am on 5^th July 2015 in Saradha Vidyalaya School with Meditation and motivational talk by Mr. Vasudevan, Official Trainer of Udhavum Ullangal. Mr. Santhanam, Trustee of UU presented Thagavalai Pagirvom. Bhumi conducted team Building activity i.e. Charts in a picture & Banana activity. Today’s turnout was very encouraging with 95 students, 35 Mentors & 25 Parents.

- Mr. Ganapathy of Bhumi addressed our Mentors. He suggested Mentors to make preparation before coming. Mentorship is nothing but understanding your students, building self-confidence, positive attitude & right guidance.

- Chennai Student's Holistic Development program on 02^nd August 2015 at RKM Saradha Vidyalaya Model Higher Sec School, Burkit Road, T Nagar. Program started with Meditation followed by Observation of silence to pay Homage to Dr. Abdul Kalam. Students presented the list of achievements of Dr. Abdul Kalam. Mr. R.Santhanam, Trustee of Udhavum Ullangal presented Thagavalai Pagirvom. Team Building by Bhumi Team. One to One Mentorship Effective communication methods for College students by Mr. Balasubramanian, Project Manager, Cancer Project, Tirunelveli.

- Our students went on Industrial visit to Thomson Press at Maraimalainagar on Saturday 5^th Sep 2015. They were shown how India Today is printed there in four languages.

- Chennai student's holistic development program on Sunday 6th September 2015 at RKM Saradha Vidyalaya School, Burkit road, T nagar. Program started with meditation followed by one to one mentorship. Then Bhumi volunteers conducted activity.

- Chennai student's holistic development program on Sunday 4^th October & 1^st November 2015 at RKM Saradha Vidyalaya School, Burkit Road, T Nagar. Program started with Meditation followed by Mr. R.Santhanam, Trustee of Udhavum Ullangal presented Thagavalai Pagirvom. Then One to one mentorship by Mentors. After that Bhumi volunteers conducted activity.

- Many students participated in competitions, games and won awards & medals which will improve their self-confidence.

- Students learnt yoga which will improve their concentration and the activity includes Team Building & communication skills which will be very useful for the students in their academics.
