This project will repair our special Music Classroom where our Vulnerable Children, (who have been orphaned, or abandoned and abused) as well as our Blind Youth, all of whom live at our School full-time, can study Mohori Music. It will also repair their toilets and our food warehouse and office. The restoration of our 31-year old building, also helps with the revival and preservation of Cambodian culture post-war and genocide.
In this building, constructed in 1994, we have taught Mohori Music to hundreds of Children, both those who have lived & live at our School and those who benefit from free tuition. Additionally this building houses our food-warehouse both for our resident Children, but also to provide food for 1000 vulnerable Children in the community. However, now the roof of our building leaks badly, it needs safe re-wiring & new toilets. It is no longer safe or usable for our Children and Staff.
This Project will provide a new roof, replace rotting wooden eaves, re-wire the whole building, replace the old toilets and washrooms and re-paint inside and outside.
The 25 children who stay at KCDI have the possibility to build a future in a safe and caring environment. Being able to receive free tuition allows them to study scholastic education from primary school to university level, Cambodian music, dance, theatre, vocational training & training in performance & transition into young adulthood, giving these young students the only possibility they have of building a future. Since 1994, 750 students have already graduated with positive results.
