In India, children with special needs are most likely to be abandoned, and least likely to be adopted. Caden, age 3, was born with a rare condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), which means his skin is as fragile as a butterly's wings. He was abandoned within days of birth, and now calls Anchor Foster Home, home while he waits for a forever family.
Thanks to your amazing support, cloth diapers allow Anchor Home to focus limited financial resources on specialized therapies and basic medical needs, including Caden's bandages and trips to visit EB specialists. Caden recenlty traveled to Bangalore to check in with a doctor who specializes in Epidermolysis Bullosa and attend a conference focusing on EB. Caden and his foster Mom and nurse were able to meet with other EB families, to help build up a support network. Caden is most likely the only child (or one of a very few) with EB and a feeding tube. This feeding tube has allowed Caden to get the nutrition he needs, and help him become the active, healthy rambunctious three year old he is today. His success with EB and a feeding tube has changed the way doctors view feeding tubes.Seeing his success has led them to counsel more EB families on considering feeding tubes to improve the quality of life for their children.
Thanks for helping Caden and the other children at Anchor Home. I encourage you to reach me at stephanie@jakesdiapers.org with any questions you may have.
