Summary

Manali Strays has no outdoor space for puppies up to 4 months old. These pups need to recover from various injuries and illnesses in a safe space, away from larger dogs that can easily harm them. We want to create a safe outdoor enclosure just for puppies under 4 months old. This will allow puppies to run, play, and explore in a secure environment without the risks posed by adult dogs. Keeping dogs of similar age together while recovering allows for for better healing and a speedier recovery.

Challenge

Our rescue centre provides outdoor areas for adults and puppies older than 4 months, but there is no space dedicated to younger puppies. These pups are currently kept in indoor kennels or put with older dogs, which poses significant risks as larger dogs and older puppies are usually over-zealous in their play, causing injuries. Furthermore, disease transmission is a big concern for unvaccinated puppies. Older dogs can also exhibit food aggression, increasing the chances of puppies being injured.

Solution

We want to create an outdoor enclosure specifically for puppies under 4 months old. This dedicated area will allow puppies to play and explore in a safe environment without the risks posed by adults. By ensuring that puppies have a safe outdoor space, we can significantly improve their overall health and well-being. Puppies that are given the opportunity to play and socialize outdoors are more likely to grow into well-adjusted, happy, and healthy adults.

Long-Term Impact

Keeping dogs of similar age together while they are recovering from sickness or injury will allow for better healing and a speedier recovery. Regular outdoor activity can help prevent many health issues that arise from a sedentary lifestyle. Puppies that play and exercise outdoors are less likely to develop obesity, joint problems, and other health complications. This proactive approach will lead to lower veterinary costs and healthier animals in the long term.
