The first case of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu was reported on 7 March 2020. The Department of Health and Family Welfare has confirmed a total of 56,845 cases, including 704 deaths and 31,316 recoveries, as of 20 June 2020. Tamil Nadu has the second highest number of confirmed cases in India after Maharashtra. All 37 districts of the state are affected by the pandemic, with capital district Chennai being the worst affected.Salem records 404 positive cases and Namakkal records 90 cases as on 23rd June 2020. With the infections on the rise every day, all districts in Tamilnadu are once again locked and movement of people from district to district is totally restricted. State government is taking lots of measures and efforts to curb the pandemic and their decisions and lockdowns are unpredictable.
The rising statistics of the pandemic and witnessing of deaths has created more fear, panic and stigma among the general public and more so with our families that are affected by HIV and AIDS.
Buds of Christ is currently reaching out close to 90 families affected by HIV and AIDS in Namakkal and Salem. Widow mothers and Children who are living with HIV are more vulnerable to Covid-19, complete orphan children under the care of grandparents are also more susceptible for the infection.
Hence for the past 3 months, we are providing the following services to the families we reach out to in Salem and Tiruchengode, Namakkal region.
