Thank you to all who helped make this a success! We have purchased $5,631 worth of textbooks and research books for the E-Library. As the students reassembled for the new academic year in February, we see books being classified by the newly-hired librarians.
This wonderful community resource will be open to the residents and students, providing a comprehensive look at the world of education. The computers and furnishings provided in phase I allow seating for 64 and internet research capacity for 10 at a time. The selection of book titles provided by the faculty encompass all the needs of O Level (the equivalent of high school in the US) and A Level (junior college equivalent) students. The more than 600 students residing on the campus are thrilled to see the progress.
The list of desired books, of course, far exceeded this Phase I purchase. We continue to look for funding for the next phase of the E-Library. The space has been finished and awaits furniture to expand the seating capacity by 103; interior tables and chairs plus tables and chairs for the balcony. The phase II completion will put the capacity at 167. Bwindi Community Program will also look for funds for additional computers and funds to complete the extensive list of desired books, estimated to cost an additional $14,384. It is a wonderful beginning. The impact of this resource will be felt by the entire community for decades!
