Having computers brings new opportunities to 100's of children, students and adults in Oyugis, Kenya. Students will learn computer skills and explore software programs to enhance their education and studies. Businesses will learn new efficiencies to improve business practices. Community members gain marketable skills for jobs. In a world driven by technology, zero computer skills don't offer much opportunity to improve life circumstances and step out of the cycle of poverty. Computer Skills Can!
We have students sponsored through Olalo who are currently in their final year of Secondary School and have never had any experience with computers. As they move forward to either higher educational pursuits or joining the workforce, this lack of competency puts them at a definite disadvantage when working through the rigors of a college or university setting, or when competing with others for employment. Providing computers for computing classes can give them the edge needed to be successful.
With purchased computers, basic computing skill classes will be offered to students. Hundreds of educational programs will be available to enhance studies and take them into new territories of learning. Adult computing classes will be open to the community to provide new marketable skills to some, and new found efficiencies to current businesses to improve their business practices and increase productivity. It is complete community involvement for hope of a better life now and for the future.
Our goal is to contribute back into the local economy by training and employing community members to teach classes. We expect to offer short term internships to older students, giving them the opportunity to learn business management skills and responsibility. Younger computer students will have opportunities to participate in the operation of the computer lab by doing miscellaneous chores around the lab as needed teaching responsibility. These new found skills can change lives forever!
