... is the educator at CDI's Monkey Hill Centre. This project will ensure he gets the support and training he needs to deliver ICT courses to local community members. The training will help improve his technical and educational skills, making sure he is equipped to answer student's questions and facilitate engaging and effective lessons. He will also receive in-person visits and ongoing online support to help him plan his lessons, resolve any issues and provide general guidance.
Until recently Monkey Hill suffered from high levels of violence due to drugs-trafficking gangs who controlled the favela. This background means residents have historically suffered from a lack of basic services and decent education and employment opportunities. CDI courses offer young people in the community the opportunity to develop their ICT and soft skills (e.g. teamwork & presentation), increasing their employability and helping their formal education potential.
The project will ensure our educator... has the skills and support he needs to make sure students develop personally and improve their technical skills through the course. ... will be able to become a role model for the students, having himself passed through their trajectory as a local resident who himself improved his prospects through CDI's courses.
In one year .... will train over ... individuals, helping to improve their employment and educational prospects. The project will also generate a long term impact by ensuring ... can guide his students through their social action project aimed at improving their community through technology. These projects can provoke long term tangible benefits by tackling key problems faced in the local area, such as environmental degradation and health issues.
