We're fundraising this week only for a microproject for building a covered enclosed laundry facility attached to the community center at Everhart Village, and to purchase stackable washers and dryer units. This will allow the twenty residents of Everhart Village, who will be clients of Butte County Behavioral Health and will have mental illnesses, to keep themselves and their clothes clean and develop good hygiene habits while also learning how to take care of shared facilities.
There are so many people in the Chico community who are homeless because of a mental illness and a lack of services. They may be receiving treatment from Butte County Behavioral Health (BCBH), but it's proven to be very difficult for this population to maintain their treatment and keep themselves clean while living unhoused on our streets. They do not have a stable environment where they can get consistent treatment for their illnesses while being able to maintain clean clothes and good hygiene.
This is a one-week campaign to raise the funds to build an enclosed laundry facility attached to the Everhart Village community center and we'll purchase two large commercial-grade washer-dryer stacking units, which will last for many years and be able to handle frequent use. Residents will be able to wash their clothes, learn good hygiene practices, and develop a sense of pride in their appearance, all without having to leave the village.
Residents at Everhart Village will be able to keep their clothes clean which will increased their health, confidence, and sense of well-being and while staying in the community. They will also learn the importance of good hygiene and how to help maintain shared facilities. Everhart Village will host up to 20 residents at a time but many will move out into permanent housing, and this laundry facility will improve their chances of long-term success after leaving the village.
