This project will provide access to education for 40 teenage mothers enrolled in our Funzo Teenage Mothers Program.
Teenage mothers living in Kibera drop out of school mainly due to the inability to afford the cost of tuition. In Kenya, pregnancies outside of marriage are frowned upon and associated with promiscuous behavior which leads to discrimination and stigma. Discrimination by the community ultimately leads to teenage mothers not having access to education and the ability to pay school fees. In addition, these girls can suffer emotional torment and the possibility of being chased away from their homes.
This project will solve the problem by covering the cost of tuition for 40 teenage mothers in Kibera. In addition to education, CFK creates a conducive environment through mentorship, psycho-social support, advocacy forums, community dialogue with teachers and parents, and the creation of safe spaces.
For each year a teenage girls spends in school, her future income increases by an additional 5%. By providing access to education for 40 teenage mothers, this project will increase their pathways to economic independence.
